I love the fact that no two days are the same – and the fact that I get to know and work with so many different people at all levels of the business.
It may sound strange but here I feel as important as anyone else in the company and I know that my thoughts and suggestions are valued as much as the next person’s.
Holly's Q&A
What are your key roles and responsibilities?
As Stores Assistant, I'm there to support the Stores and Fleet Manager however I can. The business is growing so much every day that he's incredibly busy, ordering new vans, trialling new equipment and maintaining all of our tools and instruments. I spend much of my time organising calibrations, obtaining quotes for equipment and ordering PPE, but I'm also responsible for keeping track of every bit of kit that leaves our stores and for maintaining our calibration, equipment and PPE registers.
What does a typical day look like for you?
Despite spending most of my time in just one room (our storeroom!), one day can be very different from the next. I'm busy pretty much all the time, signing out equipment, checking in other equipment, making sure it's working properly and so on. On your average day I deal with everyone from signalling installers and supervisors right up to senior managers and the MD. Dean (my line manager) involves me in pretty much everything and that gives me a really good insight into how the business works. It also helps me learn!
What qualities do you need to be good at your job?
Organisation skills are easily the most important thing, I think. That and being able to quickly prioritise things in order of importance - everyone thinks their job is the most important, but it's impossible for us to do everyone's job first!
What do you particularly enjoy about your job?
I love the fact that no two days are the same - and the fact that I get to know and work with so many different people at all levels of the business. It may sound strange but here I feel as important as anyone else in the company and I know that my thoughts and suggestions are valued as much as the next person's. I also love the fact that I'll be supported by management with whatever I want to do - if I want to do a training course they'll pay for it, if I want to learn a new skill they'll teach me.
How has the business supported you in your role?
I'm really new to the business - I've only been here for 6 months - but I've grown so much in that time because of the support and encouragement I've been given. And that's from my line manager, Dean, and also from everyone else in the team - everyone's been so positive and helpful, teaching me things every day and supporting me no matter which areas I take an interest in.
Would you recommend Amaro to someone looking for a job?
100%! There are lots of different routes people can take at Amaro - there's stores and office jobs like mine, and then there's site based jobs including apprenticeships. I feel so valued and at home here - if you're willing to work hard and learn then the company will support you no matter what.
