A former combat engineer with the British Army Royal Engineers, Paul served tours of duty in Germany, Kosovo, and Northern Ireland before joining the business in August 2023, taking on the role of Tester in Charge before being promoted to Testing Manager in 2025.

About Paul

A hugely experienced and methodical individual with more than 20 years of leadership experience, Paul started his railway journey back in 2002 following a substantial term in the military.

Since then, he’s worked for the likes of Balfour Beatty, Volker, and Thales, spending the last 10 years supporting the delivery of a whole host of complex and high profile schemes.

Managing all signalling works testing activities on schemes such as the Thameslink Resilience Project and Phase 2 of the the East Kent Resignalling Project, not to mention the recent capacity upgrade works at Gatwick Station, he now heads up Amaro’s in-house testing team, playing a pivotal role in the delivery of almost all of our clients’ signalling projects.

Key responsibilities include…

  • Developing the testing requirements for Amaro’s projects from inception, through the GRIP / PACE stages, culminating in a successful commissioning
  • Leading the management of testing for frameworks and other projects
  • Taking overall responsibility for the testing and commissioning of new and altered signalling systems
  • Identifying resource requirements for Amaro’s projects and making sure that competent staff are utilised, ensuring that they’re briefed regarding their work and responsibilities and that any necessary documentation is completed
  • Encouraging and promoting the advancement of staff
  • Ensuring adherence to the company’s standards, and safety and environmental objectives, constantly working towards the goal of continual improvement
