The Amaro team was back on track in East Sussex this weekend, delivering yet another strong shift for Network Rail on the Bo Peep and Ore 650v Signalling Power Upgrade project.
Part of a vital programme to improve safety and reduce the risk of electrocution, for some time now we’ve been removing and replacing power supply equipment operating above 175v from location cases between Bo Peep Junction and Ore station, swapping out end-of-life kit for modern Class II 650v equivalents (including step down transformers and rectifiers), and ensuring each is housed within its own separate enclosure.
This weekend’s focus was on getting the route ready for new 2c 50mm ZHLS power cables, with compliant containment that’ll stand the test of time. We made great progress on the partial installation of new GRP troughing at Bopeep tunnel, forming part of a wider 1,650m run across both tunnels, with works set to continue during week 50.
Access to these tunnels is genuinely difficult. With the volume of work in the area and limited windows around freight schedules, every possession is precious – and our team didn’t waste a minute of it.
A huge thank you to everyone involved, particularly our partner BMA Rail and troughing supplier Scott Parnell, whose support was invaluable throughout. A proper team effort, all round!
