Rob Lyas

Construction Manager

A time-served railway professional, Rob has worked at the heart of the UK's rail sector for almost two decades, starting off on the tools before rising rapidly through the ranks to achieve his current position of Construction Manager.

I joined Amaro in 2013 and have not looked back! They are an incredibly supportive company to work for - they invest heavily in their staff and believe in bringing people through the ranks by giving them the training and skills needed to progress.

Beginning his railway career in 2001 working for Freightliner as a Shunter and Carriage/Wagon Fitter, soon after, Rob moved on to GB Railfreight as an Assistant Train Manager before progressing to the position of Train Driver.

In 2010 Rob became an Assistant Installer with Railtech, gaining his licence in 2012 before leaving to join Amaro Signalling as an Installer in 2013.

Since then, Rob has gained an Installation Team Leader Licence and worked as an Installation Site Supervisor before earning a well-deserved promotion to his current position as Construction Manager.

Over and above his predominantly office-based role, Rob has achieved his SSSTS certification, is an experienced SSOW planner and holds a current COSS ticket.

Key responsibilities include…

  • Identify and communicate good engineering practice
  • Liaise with the Company’s leadership and senior management including, but not limited to, technical and SHEQ management
  • Ensure compliance is well maintained in all aspects of construction
  • Allocation and control of construction budgets, resource and programme
  • Identify and forecast budgets, including CTC, tools, equipment, transport and accommodation
  • Forecast, plan and allocate key construction resources
  • Manage project, safety and technical briefings
  • Monitor actual performance against contract
  • Ensure hours projected and scheduled are within maximum hour limits
  • Monitor quality assurance and maintain a regular quality assurance schedule
  • Carry out site inspections undertaken to plan
  • Undertake the role of CRE/CEM as required
  • Undertake checks on returned Safe System of Work Packs
